Cities changed, routines changed.
Busy days blending into each other.
A loop you don’t always realise you’re stuck in, until time slips by in the blink of an eye.
And somewhere within all of this, I’ve found the quiet privilege of stepping out alone to explore a new neighbourhood.
I’ve always loved people-watching: overhearing snippets of conversations, building stories in my head. It’s oddly comforting.
On one such evening, I found myself at a quaint little ice cream parlour down the block, ending the weekend on a sweet note. For once, I put my phone aside and simply… existed.
At the table next to me, a big, bubbly family was deep in debate over the ‘best toothpaste on the market.’
A young couple sat nearby, wrapped in their own little world—so effortlessly in love, it made me smile without realising.
A mum with a wide smile, really happy to see her kid confidently place an order.
A group of boys who chose ice cream over alcohol for their Sunday night plans.
A Swiggy delivery partner picked up what was probably his last order of the day.
And the man at the counter moved rhythmically, scooping, serving, repeating, and keeping everything in motion.
That one hour reminded me of something simple, yet easy to forget: the importance of pausing.
It made me wonder about all these lives intersecting in that tiny space. Everyone must’ve had a different kind of weeks- some fulfilling, some exhausting; some loud, some quiet days.
Yet here they all were, sharing one small, common ritual: making time for something sweet on a Sunday night.
Before the rush of a new week.
Before the urgency of the world takes over again.
Growing up, my Aai would often say, “I don’t like staying in during evenings.”
I never quite understood what she meant.
But now, I do. Completely.
A change of setting, a moment to slow down, stepping outside- it holds more power than we give it credit for. It gently resets something within you. It puts things back into perspective.
Here’s to more such soft, unplanned solo dates.
Until next time 🙂
